The Buggyworks enjoys legendary history. This project was originally constructed in 1902 by The Columbus Buggy Company, the world's largest manufacturer of horse drawn carriages. Employed in these buildings were WWI flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker and Harvey Firestone, the founder of Firestone tires. Firestone Alley, our village's Main Street, is named for the Firestone family, owners of The Columbus Buggy Company. Over the past century the 440,000 sf that comprise The Buggyworks have housed a diverse cross section of individuals and businesses; manufacturers, engineers, creative class entrepreneurs, artists, galleries, theatres and dance clubs. In 2004, 120,000 sf were dedicated to 68 authentic urban lofts. These lofts have all been sold and we now unveil the next phase of development, the dedication of an additional 145,000 sf to residential lofts, commercial and retail space. All together, these two waves of development will form a true urban village where you can live, work and play. A future phase of development is also anticipated. This final phase will deliver additional residential, office, retail space and parking and will benefit from the continued development of Columbus' fastest growing downtown neighborhood, the Arena District. |
